4. Sabaters house and alley

The oldest part of the building is at the back, where there is a coat of arms with the heraldic symbols of the Oluja and Sabater families, dating from 1680. Today’s façade in the Carrer Major dates from the 19th century and the major refurbishment carried out by Marià de Sabater (1757-1837), who embellished the most elegant rooms with paintings depicting historical scenes, such as Hannibal crossing the Alps.
Together with the alley of the same name it forms an outstanding architectural cluster, along with the bridges that connect the houses with the vegetable gardens at the back, something that attests not only to Cervera’s urban character, but also to its strong links with rural life.
