As the town grew it started to encroach on the Pla del Coll de les Savines in a northward direction. Houses were built on both sides of this axis to form the Carrer Major, behind which the present-day Carrer Sabater, and so-called Carrer de les Bruixes, form a kind of symmetrical ring-road around this first enclosed centre. The street is simple with adobe walls and has two gates at the northern and southern ends, the latter near the church of Santa Maria.
