8. Parish Hall

The founding of Cervera University was encouraged by king Philip V. After the royal intendent José Patiño had determined where the most suitable site on which to build would be, the foundation stone was laid towards the end of 1718.
It called for the demolition of 22 houses and the old hospital, the façades of which caused a large pool to form, behind which remained some vegetable gardens and the city walls. The magnitude of the works and the inevitable slow pace in carrying them out meant that classes had to be held somewhere else, and that was at the convent of Sant Francesc de Paula’s Order of Minims, currently the parish hall, on account of its proximity and the facilities it provided.
